Sharad Arvind Bobde was born on Tuesday, April 24, 1956 (age 67 as of 2023), in Nagpur, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Taurus. Bobde comes from a distinguished family of lawyers. His father, Arvind Shriniwas Bobde, was a renowned lawyer and Advocate General of Maharashtra. His mother was Mukta Arvind Bobde. His elder brother, Vinod Arvind Bobde (deceased), was a senior advocate in the Supreme Court and a constitutional expert. His grandfather was also a lawyer. His wife is Kamini Bobde. Together they have a son, Shrinivas Bobde (an advocate), and two daughters, Savitri Bobde and Rukmini Bobde.

Career

Bobde joined the BAR Association of Maharashtra in 1978. He practiced at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court and appeared before the Principal Bench. He became a Senior Advocate in 1998 after two decades of practice. He was elevated to the Bombay High Court’s Principal Bench as an Additional Judge on March 29, 2000, serving for twelve years.

On October 15, 2012, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. After serving there until April 11, 2013, he was nominated by then-Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir as a Supreme Court Judge. President Pranab Mukherjee appointed him on April 12, 2013. His appointment as the 47th Chief Justice of India followed on October 18, 2019, succeeding Ranjan Gogoi. He served in this role until April 23, 2021.
