Tanishk Bagchi was born on Sunday, November 23, 1980 (age 43 as of 2023), in Kolkata, India. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He completed his schooling at Frank Anthony Public School and Scottish Church Collegiate School in Kolkata, followed by a BSc from City College, Kolkata. His early musical explorations began with piano lessons at age five, though he later abandoned them. At around 14 or 15, he resumed his musical education under the guidance of his father.

Career

Tanishk Bagchi’s career began as a composer alongside Vayu Srivastava, forming the duo “Tanishk-Vayu.” They created music for television shows like Dance India Dance and Thapki Pyar Ki. His Bollywood debut as a composer came with the song “Banno” from the film Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), a collaboration with Vayu. He launched his solo career with “Bolna” in Kapoor and Sons (2016).

His impressive repertoire includes numerous hit songs such as “Bolna,” “The Humma Song,” “Badri Ki Dulhania (Title Track),” “Tamma Tamma Again (Remake),” “Baarish,” “Sweety Tera Drama,” “Rangtaari,” “Dholida,” “Dilbar,” “O Saki Saki,” “Hauli Hauli (Remake),” and “Aankh Marey.” He also composed music for various albums and singles including “Leja Re,” “Vaaste,” “Choodiyan,” “Nai Jaana,” and “Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi”.

His contributions extend beyond Hindi cinema. He made his Telugu debut with “Adbhutam” from the film Lover (2018), his Malayalam debut with “Psycho Saiyaan” from Saaho (2019), and his Tamil debut with “Kadhal Psycho” also from Saaho (2019).

As a singer, Tanishk debuted with “The Humma Song (remake)” in Ok Jaanu (2017). In his free time, Tanishk enjoys singing, playing sports like football and cricket, and traveling. His family has a unique tradition where each member chooses their own surname; his father’s surname is Das, and he opted for “Bagchi,” his grandfather’s surname. His initial disinterest in music stemmed from concerns about its financial viability, contrasting with his childhood academic focus and aspiration to become a pilot.

He started writing Hindi songs at 12, gradually developing his singing and melody-producing skills. His mother’s encouragement played a key role in his embracing music. His happiest childhood memory involves his first radio performance of George Benson’s “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You.” His first on-stage performance, at his college fest, involved singing the title song of Dil Se (1998) while playing guitar, resulting in multiple encore requests.

His move to Mumbai in 2000 marked the beginning of his professional musical journey, starting with smaller composition works, TV channel projects, and Bhajans as a ghost composer. A pivotal moment came when Aanand L. Rai, director of Tanu Weds Manu Returns, discovered Tanishk and Vayu’s single “Oopar Oopar,” leading to their collaboration on the film. He is a huge fan of A. R. Rahman’s album “Thiruda Thiruda” (1993), praising its unique blend of blues, funk, and Indian classical influences.
