Amit Sharma hails from a Punjabi Brahmin family. His father, Ravindernath Sharma, was a government employee. His mother worked in the engineering department of Doordarshan, tragically passing away in a car accident in 2008. He has an older sister.

Career
After school, Amit cleverly contacted director Pradeep Sarkar through a family connection. His early career involved a somewhat unexpected entry into the world of advertising. His first role was as a junior artist in a Limca TV commercial.
He worked with Pradeep Sarkar for about six years, moving to Mumbai in 2001. In 2003, he co-founded Chrome Pictures with his wife and a childhood friend.
Between 2005 and 2015, he directed over 900 commercials for major brands such as Amazon, P&G, Visa, Lifebuoy, and many more. His work garnered international recognition, including awards at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and the Spikes Asia Awards.
His transition to Bollywood began with “Tevar” in 2015, which, while not a box office success, paved the way for his later triumphs. His massive success came with the 2018 blockbuster “Badhaai Ho.”
