Diljit Dosanjh was born on January 6, 1984 (age 40 as of 2024) in Dosanjh Kalan, Jalandhar, Punjab. He comes from a humble Punjabi family. His father worked as a bus driver, earning approximately Rs. 5,000 monthly. His early education was at Ludhiana’s Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School, followed by Al Manar Public School for his 10th standard. From a young age, Diljit showed a passion for music, often performing at gurudwaras.

He even had his first significant stage performance filling in for Master Saleem when the latter was late for a show. This early experience shaped his confidence and career.

Diljit’s musical journey began in 2000 with the album “Ishq Da Uda Ada,” followed by “Dil.” His acting debut was in 2011 with “The Lion of Punjab,” though his song “Lak 28 Kudi Da” (featuring Yo Yo Honey Singh) became a major hit, overshadowing the film’s box office performance. He launched his first single, “Nachdi De,” featuring Miss Pooja in 2009.

Subsequent hit singles included “Patiala Peg,” “Jatt Fire Karda,” “5 Taara,” “Raat Di Gedi,” and “Jind Mahi.” His breakthrough came with “Proper Patola” (featuring Badshah) in 2013 – the first Punjabi song on Vevo. His successful Punjabi films include “Jatt and Juliet,” “Jatt & Juliet 2,” “Punjab 1984,” “Sardaarji,” “Ambarsariya,” and “Super Singh.”

His Bollywood debut in “Udta Punjab” earned him a Filmfare Award. He’s also contributed vocals to various Bollywood soundtracks. In 2018, he starred in “Soorma,” portraying hockey player Sandeep Singh. He’s also hosted “Awaaz Punjab Di” and endorsed brands like Coca-Cola and Flipkart.
