Born on Sunday, December 15, 1940, in Gujranwala, Punjab, British India (now in Pakistan), Goga Kapoor’s life took an unexpected turn with the Partition of India in 1947. His family relocated to India, leaving behind their possessions in Pakistan, and his father went missing during the upheaval. After several years of separation, they were reunited at a coffee shop. His father subsequently worked as a textile engineer in India.

Born into a wealthy family, the Partition drastically altered their circumstances. Goga Kapoor had one older brother and a younger sister. He married Shanta Kapoor, and they had three daughters: Shailly Kapoor Anand, Sonu Kapoor, and Payal Goga Kapoor (a theatre artist).

Goga Kapoor began his journey in the English theatre, honing his acting skills before making his Bollywood debut in “Jwala” (1971). His first villainous role in “Ek Kunwari Ek Kunwara” (1973) marked a turning point, solidifying his typecasting as a memorable antagonist.

His career highlights include notable performances in films such as “Toofan” (1989), “Agneepath” (1990), and “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa” (1994). He frequently collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan, forming a popular on-screen hero-villain pair. His iconic portrayal of Kansa in the 1988 television series “Mahabharat” further cemented his place in Indian entertainment history. He continued to work in films and television until his last film appearance in “Darwaza Bandh Rakho” (2006).
