Her breakthrough role as Paro in the 2009 film “Dev.D” propelled her to fame. Before her film career, she honed her skills through theatrical performances. Her educational background includes schooling at St. Kabir Public School, Chandigarh, followed by a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, English, and Sociology from Government College for Girls, Chandigarh. She further pursued a Master’s degree in Theatre from Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Career

Acting

After graduation, Mahie Gill briefly pursued a career in the army, undergoing three months of training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA). However, an accident during training led her to change course. While pursuing her Master’s degree, she continued to act in numerous plays, laying a strong foundation for her future in film. Her acting career began with the 2003 Punjabi film “Hawayein”.

Her Bollywood debut in Anurag Kashyap’s “Dev.D” (2009) brought her widespread critical acclaim and a Filmfare Award. The role of Paro came to her after Anurag Kashyap saw her dancing at a club. Following the success of “Dev.D”, she starred in other notable films including “Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster” (2011) and “Not a Love Story” (2011), further solidifying her position in the industry. She has also appeared in “Paan Singh Tomar,” “Toofan,” “Zanjeer,” and “Bullett Raja,” and acted in numerous regional language films, both Punjabi and Telugu.

Politics

In February 2022, Mahie Gill joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Punjab assembly elections.
