Mohan Joshi was born on Tuesday, September 4, 1945 (age 78 as of 2023), in Bangalore (then part of the Kingdom of Mysore, British India). His zodiac sign is Virgo. He completed his schooling in Pune before attending Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, Pune, to earn his commerce degree.

Born into a lower-middle-class family in Bangalore, Mohan Joshi’s father served in the Indian Army. His mother, Maher Joshi, hailed from Nagpur. He has two brothers. He married Jyoti Joshi at a young age, and they have a son, Rohan Joshi.

Career

Joshi’s acting journey began in 1969 with theatre performances in Pune. His breakthrough role came through the play “Kuryat Sada Tingalam.” He’s performed in over 8000 stage shows and 30 theatre productions. Some notable plays include Aasu Ani Hasu, Gadvach Lagna, God Gulabi, Goshta Janmantarichi, Kalam 302, Mi Revati Deshpande, Tarun Turk Mhatare Ark, Double Cross, and Aaranyak.

His film debut was in the 1983 Marathi film, “Ek Dav Bhutacha.” He’s since starred in over 70 Marathi films, including notable titles such as Sawat Majhi Ladki, Tu Tithe Mee, Gharabaher, Not Only Mrs. Raut, Deool Band, Mulshi Pattern, and 66 Sadashiv.

Bollywood recognized his talent in 1993, when the Adhikari Brothers cast him in “Bhookamp.” His portrayal of the villainous “Gangster Daya Patil” catapulted him to fame, leading to numerous villain roles in over 350 Hindi films. Some of his Bollywood credits include Gaddaar, Yeshwant, Ishq, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Gangaajal, Baghban, and Yeh Hai India. He also ventured into Bhojpuri cinema (Janam Janam Ke Saath, Tabadala) and Gujarati cinema (Hameer).

Beyond films, Joshi has appeared in several Marathi and Hindi television serials, starting with “Agnihotra” (2009). His TV credits include Bhairoba, Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta, Chala Hawa Yeu Dya, Kahe Diya Pardes, Jamuniya, Dhoondh Legi Manzil Humein, and Daadi Amma Daadi Amma Maan Jao.

Controversy

In 2013, Joshi and actor Chetan Dalvi faced an incident in Nashik involving alleged misbehavior after drinking. Following this event, Joshi resigned as President of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad.
