His notable comedic role in “Ganeshana Maduve” (1990) further solidified his position in Kannada cinema.

Political Career

Chandru entered politics in 1985, joining the Janata Party and winning the assembly elections from Gauribidanur the same year. He later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1991, serving as a Member of the Legislative Council in 1998 and 2004. He also chaired the Kannada Development Authority until 2013. In 2014, he shifted to the Indian National Congress and, more recently, was appointed the Aam Aadmi Party Karnataka President on July 13, 2023.
