Navniet Sekera, born Navniet Yadav on October 22, 1971, in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, hails from a humble farming family. His zodiac sign is Libra. He completed his schooling at a government all-boys school in Etah before excelling academically, securing admission to IIT Roorkee for Computer Science and Engineering (1989-93). He later began a Master’s degree at IIT Delhi but deferred his studies to prepare for the Civil Services Examination (CSE).

His dedication paid off, as he successfully cleared the UPSC exam on his first attempt, joining the Indian Police Service in 1996. After 14 years in the IPS, he further enhanced his skill set by earning an MBA in Finance, Strategy, and Leadership from the Indian School of Business after clearing the GMAT exam.

His wife, Dr. Puja Thakur Sekera, is a prominent social activist, motivational speaker, philanthropist, and women’s empowerment counselor. She founded “Mission Sashakt,” a foundation dedicated to women’s empowerment. The couple has two children, Devyansh Sekera (son) and Arya Sekera (daughter).

Career

Following his 1996 induction into the Indian Police Service, Navniet Sekera underwent rigorous training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad. His initial posting was as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Gorakhpur, followed by a transfer to Meerut as ASP in December 1998.

He was promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) in 2001, serving in various roles, including SP Railway Police in Moradabad and SP Technical Services. His SSP postings included Muzaffarnagar (September 2003 – November 2004), Varanasi (October 2005 – March 2006), and Meerut (March 2006 – March 2007). He rose through the ranks, achieving the position of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in 2012 and Inspector General (IG) in 2014. He currently holds the significant post of Inspector General (IG) of Women Power Line, Uttar Pradesh.

Ramesh Kalia, a notorious Lucknow-based racketeer, extorted money from contractors and builders. In 2004, with crime soaring in Lucknow, Kalia’s activities posed a significant challenge. His notoriety was such that few dared to testify against him. Following a high-profile murder, Navniet Sekera was called to Lucknow to tackle the situation.

One notable incident involved a dramatic encounter in February 2005. To reach Kalia’s hideout, Sekera devised a clever plan involving a police team disguised as a wedding procession. This successful operation resulted in Kalia’s death.
