Pramod Pandurang Sawant was born on April 24, 1973, in Bicholim, North Goa. He hails from Sanquelim, also in North Goa. Besides his political career, he’s a qualified Ayurveda practitioner.
He earned a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine, and Surgery (BAMS) degree from Ganga Education Society’s Ayurvedic Medical College, Kolhapur, in 1996. Later, he pursued a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Tilak Maharashtra University, Pune, in 2010. His early involvement with the RSS saw him rise through the ranks of the organization.

Sawant comes from a Maratha Kshatriya community. His parents are Pandurang and Padmini Sawant. He’s married to Sulakshana Sawant, a chemistry teacher at Shri Shantadurga Higher Secondary School, Bicholim. Career
Introduced to active politics by Manohar Parrikar after his time with the RSS, Sawant quickly advanced within the BJP. He became the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. In March 2012, he was elected to the Goa Legislative Assembly from the Sanquelim constituency.
He secured re-election in March 2017 to the Seventh Legislative Assembly. From 2017 to March 2019, he served as the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, a position he was appointed to by Parrikar. On March 19, 2019, he was sworn in as Goa’s 13th Chief Minister, a remarkable achievement given his lack of prior ministerial experience.
Notably, he was sworn in again as Chief Minister on March 28, 2022, for a second term.
