Sarangi faced accusations related to the 1999 Monoharpur village incident involving the tragic deaths of Graham Staines and his sons. While initially implicated, he was later acquitted due to lack of evidence. He was also arrested in 2002 for alleged participation in an attack on the Odisha Assembly.
