His academic pursuits led him to earn a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from DAV College, Chandigarh in 1981, followed by a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1985. He furthered his education with a Post Graduation in Political Science from Panjab University in 1995.
