Sunil’s journey began as a radio jockey, RJ Sud, on Radio Mirchi’s popular series “Hansi K Phuware”. His television debut was in the comedy show “Full Tension” on DD National in 1995. His film debut was in “Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha” (1998), playing the role of ‘Barber Totaram’.

He also starred in the first 26 episodes of India’s first silent show, “Gutar Gu,” which aired on Sab TV. His breakthrough role came as ‘Gutthi’ in “Comedy Nights With Kapil” (Colors TV, 2013-2016). He further cemented his fame with ‘Rinku Bhabhi’ and ‘Dr. Mashoor Gulati’ in “The Kapil Sharma Show” (Sony Entertainment Channel, 2016).

He made his Punjabi film debut with “Vaisakhi List” in 2016. Beyond acting, he’s also lent his voice to animation, notably dubbing for “Chicken Little” (2005).

Controversies

Sunil’s career has not been without its share of controversies. Reports suggest his departure from “Comedy Nights With Kapil” stemmed from a salary dispute with Kapil Sharma. A widely publicized incident on a flight from Melbourne to Mumbai in March 2017 further fueled the tension between the two comedians.

Later disagreements arose concerning the show “Family Time With Kapil,” where Sunil was notably absent. Public statements from both sides highlighted the complexities of their professional relationship. However, a significant reconciliation occurred in March 2024 when they collaborated on “The Great Indian Kapil Show,” ending a six-year rift.

More recently, in May 2024, comedian Sunil Pal criticized Sunil Grover’s comedy as “cheap” and “vulgar,” sparking further public discussion.
