Career
His association with the ABVP propelled him into the BJP. Appointed District Secretary of the BJP in 1991, he steadily rose through the party ranks. He won the Karnataka Assembly Elections in 1994, representing the Ankola Constituency. He was re-elected in 1999 and 2004, demonstrating his popularity amongst the electorate. After the 2008 delimitation, he successfully contested and won from the newly formed Sirsi Constituency, securing re-election in 2013 and 2018. In 2008, he served as the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education under the BS Yeddyurappa Cabinet. Following the collapse of HD Kumaraswamy’s coalition government in July 2018, the BJP returned to power, and Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri was elected as the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly on July 30, 2019, a position he secured unanimously.
